ABOUT THE CHATEAU

APPLIANCE INSTRUCTIONS / INFORMATION

AIR CONDITIONING (AKA OPENING WINDOWS)
Most homes in Cambria do not have air conditioning. It stays pretty cool all year round here. But if it does get warm we suggest opening some windows and turning on the ceiling fans.

Kitchen Windows:
The windows in the kitchen require an extension crank. The crank should be in the corner by the front door.

Bedroom Windows:
The windows in the bedroom can be opened by turning the handle clockwise to the 12-o’clock position. Then you can push the windows up to open. To close, reverse the process. Make sure the window is down all the way before locking it in the counterclockwise position. If you want some airflow, but don’t want the window open, you can pull down on the long, top handle to allow air in. You will need the step stool to reach that handle to pull down the shades.

CEILING FANS
Our home is equipped with ceiling fans to help keep you cool.

Main Room:
The fans in the main room are operated by remote controls which are mounted on the walls. You may have to remove the remote from its holder and point the remote at the fan to operate it. The lightbulb icon turns the fan light on and off. The numbers on the control represent fan speeds, “3” is fastest, “0” is off.
Bedroom:
The bedroom fan/light is operated by the rectangle controller.  You must remove the controller and point it at the fan to operate it.  The numbers 1 - 4 are the fan speeds. To turn the fan off, you must press the little on/off button on the right side of the controller (facing the TV). The light is operated by pressing the up or down arrow buttons on the face of the controller. Either the up or down arrow button turns the light on or off. The light is dimmable if you press and hold the up or down arrows.

DYSON HEATER/FAN/AIR PURIFIER
For additional heating or cooling you can place the Dyson in any room. Use the remote control to adjust the temperature (heating), the speed and oscillation of the  fan. Press the “AUTO” button to activate the air purification feature. Always return the remote control to the top of the fan (a magnet keeps it in place). Be careful moving the fan when it’s in heating mode; the inside frame of the fan could be hot! For more information on the Dyson fan operation, please consult the user manual located in the drawer next to the refrigerator.

FIREPLACE / HEATER
Our home has a working gas fireplace. It gets sufficiently warm enough to heat the entire home (especially if you turn on the bedroom fan).
IMPORTANT: Do not place anything on the mantle when the fireplace is on! The mantle gets hot!

Manual Operation:
You can turn the fireplace on and off with the panel switch on the left side of the firebox. This is the easiest way to operate the fireplace. Once you turn on the fireplace (you’ll hear several “beeps” and a “motor-like” noise before the fireplace ignites). It may take 20+ seconds to light. You can adjust the flame height by pressing and HOLDING the up or down arrows. You’ll hear a motor like noise as the flame adjusts.
Fireplace Fan: There is a dimmer-type switch on the right side of the firebox. It controls the fan to blow hot air out of the fireplace. Turn counter-clockwise until you hear/feel a “click” to turn the fan off. Turning clockwise just past the click is the highest fan setting, but it can be loud. Keep turning clockwise and the noise should diminish but the fan will be slower.  The fireplace fan is  usually not needed.

Remote Control:
The remote can do a number of things. There is a user guide on top of the dresser that further details its abilities.
To turn the fireplace on: Press the red button and the upper right button at the same time (you’ll hear several “beeps” and a “motor-like” noise before the fireplace ignites). Again, it takes almost half a minute to start, so be patient.
To adjust flame: Press (or press and hold) the upper right button to make the flame higher. Press (or press and hold) the lower right button to make the flame lower.

KITCHEN EQUIPMENT
Manuals for the appliances are in the drawer next to the refrigerator.

Kitchen Sink Controls:
The kitchen sink faucet lever is a little unorthodox and works like this:
-Move to the right to get the water flowing
-Move the lever back for cold water
-Move the lever forward for hot water
The head of the faucet detaches if you want to get jiggy while rinsing off your dishes.

The Dishwasher:
You will find detergent under the sink. We have very soft water, so only fill the “main wash” compartment halfway. Press the program button of your choice - there are a few settings which are obvious - then press the start button.

The Fridge/Freezer:
You should not need to adjust any settings. Note: The ice maker should be off. If you run into any difficulties (e.g. it's not cooling efficiently) please let us know.
The Microwave and Oven:
The microwave is also a vent for the stovetop. There is a button to turn on the vent on the microwave control panel (lower right). To extend the vent over the front burners of the stove, press on the panel under the microwave. The vent should automatically extend.

Kitchen Wall Plugs:
These are “safety sockets” and have a plastic cover on the inside of each plug. They can be hard to plug into sometimes, just push harder!

Over the Counter Lighting:
There are two LED light fixtures under the cabinets, left of the sink. There are little switches on the right side of each fixture. They are three-way switches: High/Low/Off.

LAUNDRY
We have a washer and dryer located on the premises. Please contact a Moonstone Cellars staff member if you need to use the washer and dryer.

ENJOYING YOUR TIME

MUSIC SYSTEM
There are two wireless Bose speaker systems in the unit. The bigger one in the common area is called “common area”, the smaller one in the bedroom is called “bedroom” (clever, huh?). There are three ways to play music through the speakers:
1- Via the mini plug cord. You can plug in your phone, iPod, or other device via this cord. Just press the Bluetooth/Aux button until “AUX” appears on the screen (on the bigger one) or the AUX white light appears (on the smaller one).
2- Via Bluetooth. Open up the Bluetooth settings on your phone or tablet and then push the Bluetooth/Aux button on the Bose speaker. Find either “common area” or “bedroom” on your device and select. This can take a minute or so.
3- Via the preset buttons. Buttons 1 - 6 are preselected internet radio stations they are:
1- KCBX: Local NPR Station (News, Music, Talk Programs)
2- The Krush: Local Rock Station with Wine Related Programming
3- The Beach: Local Rock Station with a Beachy Theme
4- The Coffeehouse: Mellow Singer Songwriter Tunes
5- Jazz
6- Classical
4- If you really want to get into it. Download the Bose SoundTouch App and play around with all the options!

TELEVISIONS
There are two smart TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Both have their own cable boxes. Both are subscribed to Netflix. Other on-demand apps are on the TV and will work if you subscribe to those services.
There are also HDMI cables if you would like to connect your computer, game console, or other accessory to the TVs.
Don’t forget to sign out of any services you logged into while staying!

BREAKAGES
We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately - if it's minor we usually won't charge. If it's a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you!

OUTSIDE CHAIRS / FIRE PITS
There are chairs available for use around the fire pits after the winery closes 5:30pm or so. Contact a Moonstone Cellars staff member if you are interested.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

BED LINEN / TOWELS
For stays longer than one week, fresh linens and towels will be provided on a weekly basis.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL & RECYCLING
There are two “trash cans” in the kitchen. One is for recycling, the other for rubbish. There are trash and recycling dumpsters in the alley, but they are locked. Please ask a tasting room staff member if you need to deposit full trash bags in the dumpsters and they will assist you. Extra trash bags can be found in the bottom drawer next to the refrigerator.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE
There are LED “lanterns” and a flashlight in the kitchen cabinet under the windows.

BATHROOM ESSENTIALS
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we no longer provide bath supplies like shampoo, Q-tips, cotton balls, etc.  If you forgot your own supplies, a Moonstone Cellars staff might be able to help you. If the tasting room is closed, the General Store and The Pit Stop might have just what you need (both are a block away).

USB PORTS
They are everywhere!
two in the powerstip under the desk
two in the back of each cabinet next to the couch
two on each side of the headboard (push hard!)
two in the plug under the kitchen windows
one in the back of the clock radio next to the bed

BEACH VISITS
If you bring sand back with you (like on your feet or in your shoes), please rinse off outside before returning to the apartment. There is a hose behind the office (we are happy to show you where). Thank you for helping to keep the shower and sink drains from clogging!

SAFETY INFORMATION & RENTAL RULES

Absolutely no pets are permitted in the home. You’ll be asked to leave the home immediately and forfeit rents and deposits if an unauthorized pet is in the home.

QUIET TIMES
Please be respectful of our neighbors. The topography of the region is like an amphitheater. So, please no loud conversations outside or loud music after 9pm.  Also, keep in mind that between 10am and 6pm you’re above a working business. You may hear noise from the business below and they may hear noise from the home.

SMOKING POLICY

Please, No Smoking (anything ;-) inside. A $250 cleaning fee will be charged to your card if you smoke inside The Chateau. No smoking is allowed on the property when the tasting room is open (11am - 6pm). All smoking must be 50-feet away from the tasting room and all parts of the building  during business hours.

IS SOMETHING BURNING?
If you smell something like “burnt toast” and you are not making toast, it may be the local coffee shop. The Cambria Coffee Roasting Company is a great place to get fresh roasted coffee. You know it’s the real deal because you can smell them roasting their beans every three days or so. They are just about 100 feet away from you, upwind!
